I think people who teach and guide have to define their roles.
For a long time, I saw myself as a mentor. Well, I even run a site called Audio Mentor.
What’s the difference?
To the receiving end:
A mentor is someone who does something better than you, because she has done it longer than you – and has more experience.
A coach, is someone who watches you from the side. She sees your strengths, weaknesses and opportuntities – in a way you wouldn’t be able to. (Because you cannot see the label from inside the bottle.)
Being a mentor or coach, each bring their value. But defining yourself as one will force you to think, and act differently.
