My name is Reuben Ch’ng. I’m an entrepreneur and a music producer.

I run a marketing firm, Jar Creations and Cat Studio a music school based in Georgetown, Penang. Along with that I play around and run a few more little startups (or more like hobbies). One of them is Audio Mentor, where I occasionally put up helpful tutorials on music production.

Being obsessed with digital marketing, the internet and music tech, I spend most of my time running creative marketing campaigns for companies and then spare some time to produce music. Creative work is the type of work that excites me. Put me into a mundane 9 to 5 job and I’ll probably die of boredom.

The type of marketing work I do involves creative thinking and a lot of internet marketing. Some of the type of work I do in marketing are things like building websites, writing content, running marketing campaigns and a little of designing. However while many do marketing because they just simply have to, together with my company Jar Creations, we do marketing in a reverse manner. I call that ‘working future aback’. That means before I even start with a marketing plan, I focus on the ROI (return on investment) and see the target.

Many branding, advertising or promotions company do not do that. Yup, you can have pretty designs and a beautiful website for your business. But if they do not bring you sales and more customers, then you have just wasted your time.

On the other hand I produce music. The type of music I produce is usually more suitable for film and games. Having work on composing music for documentaries by History Channel and such, I found the type of music I like to compose. People ask me if I write and produce pop music at all. Yes I do, but I’m a little selective.

Other than marketing and making music, I enjoy teaching and inspiring as well. Back in 2011, I myself was inspired by Simon Sinek who wrote Start With Why, a New York best selling book. In that book, Simon explain the ‘WHY’ we do what we do. Upon finishing the book in an audiobook version, I began to find my why. That lead me into learning more everyday and eventually speaking and educating in meetups, talks and events.

Enough about me. This blog is going to be all about you and how I can inspire you.

Call it my rants. Maybe they’re ideas that I want to share. And sometimes I simply want to write and inspire.

Anyway it is, I hope you’ll find my writing to be of value to you. And while I improve myself in doing the things I love, I hope to also inspire you and change your life for the better.

My writing will be segregated into 3 main categories.

General: This would be where I’d write about things which are personal to me.

Music: Music production. I still produce music and will continue to produce, while sharing ideas & tips here

Business: I’m no big tycoon (I admit!). However go through in a day of my life and you might learn a thing or two.
